Wall of Fame Final Check
over 2 years ago – Tue, Sep 06, 2022 at 10:48:41 PM

Hi everyone, thanks for letting me know of any corrections necessary for the Wall of Fame. I've actually moved any entries I missed last time to the first page of the section, so if you were not there last time, check below the "Thanks" message. After the first page, the names will be in alphabetical order. Here's the updated list:

Apologies again for Kickstarter-induced blurriness in these images.

That should be everyone accounted for! If I somehow still missed you or there's a problem, please let me know ASAP! The book's design will be going off to the printer in a matter of weeks (or days, really)! I don't want anyone who pledged for a spot on the Wall to miss out.

Thanks,

-Matthew

Almost done! Please check your Wall of Fame name here
over 2 years ago – Thu, Sep 01, 2022 at 09:36:48 PM

Hi everyone!

Big news: all design work on GAMEMASTER CLASSIFIED will be complete within about 2 weeks! Barring any sort of cataclysm of biblical proportions (knock on wood), we'll be firing off the design docs then to the manufacturer for printing. Stay tuned for info on when we'll have them created and ready to send out.

That leaves us with a final check-in for Wall of Fame. If you backed at a tier that includes a Wall of Fame name + game, please look for your name in the included images below and double-check that we got it right. A few things to keep in mind--

1) The names are in alphabetical order via first names. Sorry, Zacharys of the world! A few names start with a pair of quotes or a number so if you did this, check the beginning of the wall.

2) I largely kept the names and games verbatim how you described them (i.e. if you put "Mario 3," I didn't correct it to "Super Mario Bros. 3" etc). The only exception were obvious typos/misspellings.

3) Please only check that your name and games are there and spelled properly per your submission, and not things like where your name is placed in relation to other names, or wanting to include extra info at this point. We're in the endgame now and there's only so much I can do!

4) If I forgot your name, I'll have to place it in the end of the lineup, out of alphabetical order, largely for the sake of my own sanity (moving in a new Aaron or something in its alphabetical place would necessarily require changing all five pages by moving everything up one slot, etc).

5) Lastly, these images look pretty blurry on my computer. Rest assured the actual pages are a lot sharper. Onto the names:

Not all backers filled out their survey, but hopefully everyone else is present and accounted for. If not, you have one week to tell me I made a mistake! Ideally, just let me know ASAP (via comments on this update, or via KS message) when you see this post. It's time to get these puppies to the printer, after all.

You guys have some fun choices too. A bunch of these, I hadn't even heard of (even if a few of them sort of stretch the definition of NES/Famicom games a bit)! I appreciate the inclusion of some truly weird games like Monster Party, hidden gems like Gimmick!, and cult classics such as Shatterhand and Mother.

Getting close!

The Table of Contents, and a brief tour of the book!
over 2 years ago – Sun, Jul 31, 2022 at 10:36:36 PM

As the release gets ever closer, now's a good time to reveal a picture worth a thousand words: GAMEMASTER CLASSIFIED's own Table of Contents!

First up, this may not be a 100% final image; a few elements are still up in the air regarding the page counts of a couple flexible sections, but this is by and large very close to what the final book's layout will be. Sometimes the pages appear rather pixel-y on Kickstarter as well for some reason, so ignore the "artifacting" if you see it.

So, a little tour! I was looking very closely at the 1990 era of Nintendo Power for design and coloring nods, so hopefully this gives off those rad early Nintendo vibes.

On the left side are the meat and potatoes of GMC, the Main Chapters. Each are pretty consistent in length, delivering the previous sections I've showcased--Summary, Nintendo Insider, Howard's Now Playing (the full-page comics), Classified Information, Year-In-Reviews, and the yearly Wrap-Up. Some have bonus extra content, such as the occasional Matthew's Memories comics. The bulk of the book's content takes place in these year-by-year breakdowns, and each chapter is stuffed full of insider stories, original illustrations, screens, and rundowns of what was going on in the industry at the time.

The right side contains all the sections that appear before and after the Main Chapters. Prologue goes through some pre-1980 goodness and lets readers know what they're in for. Player's Forum, hearkening back to the NP section of the same name, is all about other people's own contributions, including Player's Pulse and the Wall of Fame that many of you are featured in! Another NP staple, The Info Zone, gets into some fun side info that didn't fit in the main chapters (including our top 30 NES games ranked), while the Epilogue is all about sayin' goodbyes. How bittersweet!

But don't bust out the hankeys yet, as we're still putting our finishing touches to this ~250 page puppy. The next few months are the endgame, so stay tuned!

Thanks,

-Matthew

Survey check-in and page count
over 2 years ago – Fri, Jul 01, 2022 at 07:22:55 PM

Hi everyone!

So all of you certainly should've received your surveys by now; if not, please let me know. According to our records, about 90% of you have already filled them out, so that's excellent. If you haven't yet, now's a good time!

We have had one of our most productive months yet throughout June. The book's most difficult art aspect (the comics) are now all but wrapped up, and we have a total page count solidly in place. The final number will depend on a few late decisions, but it's looking like GAMEMASTER CLASSIFIED will weigh in at around 250 pages! I hope to share the Table of Contents with you guys soon so you can see exactly how it all breaks down, but there are a few elements still up in the air.

Not too much else to reveal this update, but thanks for sticking with us, and feel free to shoot me any questions you may have about your surveys.

Thanks,

-Matthew

The surveys are coming!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Jun 01, 2022 at 12:15:58 AM

Things are getting close now...

Your post-Kickstarter surveys will be sent out in a matter of days! Please make sure you reply to them, as we cannot get you your pledge rewards without them. They’ll ask for your current address as well as any specific other details we may need from you depending on the pledge. For instance, anyone who’ll have their name and game in the Wall of Fame will be asked for those details. So stand by!

The way this works is that once everything is good to go—likely by the end of this week—5% of you will get your surveys as a sort of “smoke test” to ensure that we didn’t overlook any important detail. As long as that goes smoothly (which it almost certainly will), everyone else’s surveys will follow shortly afterward. You should all have them in June though.

Lastly, a reminder to the Ice Level tier backers—if you haven’t sent out your Player’s Pulse artwork or comment, please do so! Today’s the deadline but I have a small amount of wiggle room if you’ve forgotten.

Thanks,

-Matthew
